15 Chinese Charged With Gambling
Plead Not Guilty

Begawan - The case of 15 Chinese including two women, who were
allegedly caught almost six years ago for gambling, was brought
yesterday before the Kuala Belait Magistrates Court.
In court yesterday, only 13
defendants, named Leong Vin Phin, 40, Lee Loi Fatt, 46, Voo Khin Yapp,
45, Wong Say Kiew, 40, Lo Nyuk Thien, 41, Tham Boon Sing, 31, Wong Kim
Lin, 39, Ng Ah Heng, 47, Chai Chitt Yatt, 42, Tea Ngee Siaw, 42, Tiong
Ming Chuong, 35 and one of the female defendants, Wu Kin Pui, 34, were
present. They were all represented by lawyer, Hj Zul Sukarla bin Hj
Zul-Kiflie.
Meanwhile three other defendants,
Huang Yu Huan, 50, Wong Kim Seng, 38, and Ang Goh Tee, a 50-year-old
woman, were absent.
The defendants had all pleaded not
guilty to the charge of playing a game of 'Pasar Malam' at a house in
Jalan Lubok Rumbia, Kuala Belait on September 9, 1996 under Section
6(1) of the Common Gaming House Act.
They had also pleaded not guilty to a
lower alternative charge of an unlawful assembly under the same
section, stated Attorney General Chambers Prosecuting Officer, Pg Isa
bin Pg Hj Aliuddin.
Magistrate Dk Masni binte Pg Hj Bahar
set March 15, 16 and 17 for trial.
