Defiant Thai Fined $3,000

Begawan - A 27-year-old Thai national who was barred from
entering Brunei, but got in again using a different passport, was
yesterday fined $3,000 or three months in jail by Senior Magistrate
Radin Shafiee Radin Mas Basuni.
Immigration Prosecuting Officer
Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir said the woman, Chutamani Phaethaisung was
first arrested on October 22 last year on suspicion of being involved
in immoral activities.
As a result, she was lawfully removed
from Brunei and was barred from entering the country.
However, on November 29 the same
year, she re-entered Brunei using a Thai passport under the name of
Mrs Chutimon Sriboonchu without the written authority of the
Controller of Immigration, the court heard.
IPO Moharefandi further told the
court that the defendant was arrested during a joint operation
conducted by the Officers from the Jerudong Police District,
Immigration Enforcement Officers, Royal Customs and Excise Department,
Syariah Unit and Labour Department three days ago.
