Graffiti makes its first appearance on the wall of the Kiarong
underpass.
The newly-painted walls of the
Kiarong underpass has become the latest victim of graffiti
artistes - a few days after it was opened to the public.
Drivers yesterday morning were
shocked to find that the white wall had been smeared by a
graffiti Malay word.
The underpass was only opened
to the public last Monday and with its accessibility, the
underground tunnel has eased the traffic jam that had beset the
area for so long.
The tunnel is well-lit day and
night. Road users said the graffiti could have been sprayed in
the early hours yesterday morning when there was no traffic.
"The irresponsible person
or persons had smeared the beauty of the underpass with
unnecessary graffiti so soon after its opening.
"I am dismayed at the
latest development," said a road user.
Observers suggested that walls
should be constructed for bored people to "spray"
their feelings.
They said such walls should be
guarded and can be built at public parks. Maybe people who
wanted to spray graffiti can be charged to cover the costs of
constructing the walls and to buy paint to re-spray the walls
when they run out of walls to graffiti, they said.
Some graffiti are artistic in
nature and these people can develop their talent by practising
their skills at properly monitored walls, they said.
