Brunei Ruler Leaves Manila After Three-Day Visit

Philippine Defence Secretary Angelo Reyes bids farewell to Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at the Villamor Airport

Manila - His Majesty Sultan of Brunei ended a successful four-day state visit to the Philippines leaving Manila at 1.30pm yesterday.

Present to bid farewell at the Villamor Airbase in Manila was Philippine Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr and Brunei Ambassador to the Philippines Dayang Hajah Maimuna.

Before boarding, His Majesty inspected a guard of honour.

The Brunei ruler's visit to the Philippines was at the invitation of the Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, which she extended during her state visit to Brunei in August 2001.

This was His Majesty's second visit to the Philippines. The first one was in August 1991.

His Majesty's latest visit is seen as an effort to strengthen bilateral ties between Brunei and the Philippines.

Before leaving Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Aziz.
