The Brunei Speakers Club held a competition Tuesday night at the
Brunei Tennis Club at Jalan Berakas, where two finalists were
selected to participate in the upcoming International Speakers
Competition scheduled to take place this February 22.
All five speakers were required
to compete in two categories - a prepared speech and secondly,
an impromptu speech.
The impromptu speech, rather
than being nerve-wracking, turned out to be quite light and
humourous. Each of the speakers had the audience enthralled and
waiting for more.
When interviewed, Louie, one of
the competing speakers, said, "Obviously everyone would
like to win, but personally, I am thrilled with the experience
and would love to have the experience of competing on an
international level."
After much interesting
speeches, the winners of each category was announced. Winning
the prepared speech was Lim Chui Hian. She has been a speaker
for about a year and has just received her CTM(Competent toast
master title).
Rozana Yunos, having been a
member of the Brunei Speakers Club for two years, won the
impromptu speech category and will go on to compete in the
competition this February 22.
The Brunei Speakers Club is an
avenue for persons interested in self-development and membership
is open to the public. Currently there are 40 members, however
the club is still looking for a permanent place to hold their
weekly meetings.
