The cultural dance performed by the Ministry Culture Youth and
Sports dancers.
The Ministry of Health and the
Asean Otorhinolary-ngological - Head and Neck Federation jointly
hosted a gala night to welcome the delegates.
Pehin Dato Hj Awg Abu Bakar bin
Hj Apong, Minister of Health, the guest of honour, was greeted
by Dr Zulkarnain Hj Hanafi and Hj Mahdi Abdul Rahman,
co-chairpersons of the organising committee.
Also present were Dato Paduka
Awg Hj Zainal bin Hj Momin, Permanent Secretary of Health, Mr.
Siow Jin Keat, President of the Asean Otorhinolaryngological
-Head and Neck Federation, senior officials and officials from
the government and private sector.
Dr Zulkarnain thanked His
Majesty's government and the sponsors and acknowledged the
organising committee's efforts in making the congress a success.
An award of recognition was
presented to the founding member, Dr Suchitra Prasansuk,
Thailand, for her hard work in promoting the ORL Head and Neck
Surgery in Asean countries.
New members of the Asean
Otorhinolaryngological -Head and Neck Federation were appointed.
Dr Zulkarnain was appointed as the president, Dr. Bambang
Hermini from Indonesia as vice president, Dr. N. Kunaratnary
from Singapore as the secretary general cum treasurer.
The new council members were
Dr. Sea Huong, Cambodia; Dr. Sayadeth Ratanarong, Laos; Dr.
Sathananther, Malaysia; Dr. Myo Min, Myanmar; Dr. Manuel C. Tan
Jr, Philippines; Dr. Apinan Nankorn, Thailand; Dr. Siow Jin Keat,
Singapore, and Dr. Nauyen Van Duc, Vietnam.
Pehin Dato Hj Awg Abu Bakar
presented prizes to winners of the golf and bowling tournament.
He also presented a souvenir to
the next host of the 10th Asean ORL Head and Neck Congress that
will take place in Bali, Indonesia next year.
Each Asean country member
displayed different cultures when they performed their own
songs. Their performances symbolised the unity of Asean towards
their theme 'Promoting and Strengthening Regional Partnership'.
