French oil giant TotalFinaElf
has confirmed a significant natural gas and condensate discovery
in Brunei Darussalam at Block B.
The joint-venture block is
located approximately 50 km north of the capital, Bandar Seri
Begawan, according to Rigzone.com. The discovery confirms the
potential of the deep horizons of Block B, said the website.
It was made at a vertical depth
of around 4,400 metres, below the currently producing gas and
condensate reservoirs of the Maharaja Lela Jamalulalam field.
Well MLJ1-06 struck a column of hydrocarbons of around 100
metres.
TotalFinaElf operates the Block
B Joint Venture with a 37.5 per cent stake. Shell has 35 percent
and local partners own 27.5 per cent.
The oil company was awarded an
exploration license in Brunei's deep water Block J a year ago,
the website added.
