Asean TV News Producers Meet In Sultanate

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei is currently hosting the Asean Television News Producers Meeting.

It was declared open by the Radio Television Brunei (RTB) Director Pengiran Dato Haji Ismail yesterday.

The meeting is participated by representatives from Asean's 10 member countries, the Asean Secretariat, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and the European Broadcasting Union.

The RTB's Head of News, Current Affairs and Sports Awang Haji Johari chaired the two-day Asean news meeting.

The Asean committee on culture and information in its 37th meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2002 approved the project for strengthening the current news exchange of television news and features.

The idea was mooted by Brunei, which thought the current method of news exchange needed to be widened and strengthened.

The project was highlighted during the 7th Conference of Asean Minister Responsible for Information, held in Bandar Seri Begawan in October 2002.
