Brunei is bracing itself for
the computer virus that has hit South Korea. Called
"Sapphire" or "SQL Slammer," the worm
carries a self-generating mechanism that enables it to multiply
across the web and may hit Brunei anytime. The Brunei broadband
line, the popular eSpeed, was malfunctioning yesterday morning,
believed to have been caused by the worm.
The Brunei sole Internet
broadband service provider said yesterday that Singapore was hit
by a nationwide malfunction, most probably caused by eSpeed.
Brunei ASDL broadband, which is
link to Singapore was also affected yesterday, but was however
restored by midday due to recovery work done by the eSpeed
department.
On Monday, AFP reported that
the worm rapidly triggers a huge volume of transmission flowing
into systems. The worm rapidly spread across the world over the
last weekend.
