Brunei And Manila Signs Merchant Shipping Agreement


Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Pehin Yahya and  Philippine Administration of the Maritime Industry Authority Attorney Oscar Sevilla signing the MOU

Manila - In conjunction with the state visit of His Majesty Sultan of Brunei to the Philippines, an agreement on Merchant Shipping and related matters between the His Majesty's government and Philippine government were signed.

The signing ceremony was held at the Malacaņang Palace yesterday.

Signing for Brunei was the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Pehin Dato Awang Haji Yahya while the Philippines was represented by the Administration of the Maritime Industry Authority Attorney Oscar Sevilla.

The agreement underscores the importance of promoting and strengthening bilateral economic relations as it sought to improve the efficiency at maritime transport.

Through this agreement, ships from both countries will be allowed to provide transhipment services such as to load and unload cargoes and passengers between ports in Brunei and the Philippines.

To realise and monitor the objectives of the agreement, both sides have agreed to set up a joint committee on maritime affairs that will meet every two years to discuss any pertaining issues.
