By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 24-YEAR-old local woman caught wearing a pair of stolen shoes was yesterday fined $350 or a month in jail in default.

Juliana Jamaludin pleaded guilty to dishonestly retaining five pairs of stolen ladies shoes when produced before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's court.

She was wearing one stolen pair when the police closed in upon her, the court heard.

She however pleaded not guilty to committing the theft of the shoes belonging to Yap Mei Lee, 29. The shoes were estimated to cost $270. But she plead guilty to the alternative charge of retaining stolen property.

The court heard that a report was lodged by Han Pey Siew, 27, about his wife's missing shoes believed to be stolen from their house in Kg Manggis Satu, Jalan Muara in April last year.

After receiving information, CID officers from Berakas Police Station conducted a searched at Juliana's house.

During the search, the police found the missing shoes. The defendant was wearing one pair at that time. The rest were found in the living room, the court was told. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
