Minister to the President's
Office and Chairman of the Lao National Commission for Drug
Control and Supervision, Mr Soubanh Srithirath, paid a visit to
Rumah Al-Islah Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre late
yesterday afternoon.
He was accompanied by Dato
Paduka Awg Hj Md Yusof bin Hj Md. Hassan, Permanent Secretary at
the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as officials from Narcotic
Control Bureau (NCB). Awg Hj Ahmad Hj Dullah, Director of Prison
Department, warmly greeted them at the Rumah Al-Islah.
According to a source close to
the delegation, this was the "first time that such an
official visit was made to Rumah Al-Islah" and its main
reason was to "pick up some pointers from the integrated
system of Rumah Al-Islah, and to use it as a model to help curb
the drug abuse in Laos".
Mr Shoubanh Srithirath, who is
on a two-day official visit to Brunei, visited the different
workshops at Rumah Al-Islah that included the creative
handicraft, carpentry and agriculture sites. He also viewed an
exhibition of activities conducted at Rumah Al-Islah.
