Audience at the discussion workshop organised by the Affiliation
of Drama, Entertainment and Creative Artists and DBP.
A senior government officer called
for efforts to introduce performing arts to the younger
generation who are indulging in the era of technological
advancement such as the widely used Internet.

Ibrahim, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture,
Youths and Sports said the younger generation is more at ease
with interactions through a variety of IT innovations than with
people in real life.
The Permanent Secretary was
delivering a keynote address at the launching of discussion
workshop, Apresiasi Drama (Drama Appreciation) held at the Balai
Sarmayuda, Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), Berakas last
Saturday.
The launching, organised by the
Affiliation of Drama, Entertainment and Creative Artists (GAPHAR)
in joint-cooperation with DBP, was also attended by senior
officials of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, DBP's
acting director, Hj Abdul Hakim Hj Mohd Yassin, officers of DBP
and Radio Television Brunei, GAPHAR's members, as well as drama
and literary activists.
"Quality productions in
line with contemporary taste, aspiration and value will attract
a greater audience and is an effective tool to channel messages,
which is vital towards counteracting negative influences.
"Productions that bring up
a variety of issues - social, economy and culture - can be
educational to youths," he said.
He urged drama activists and
producers to be sensitive to national issues and agendas, and be
more proactive as well as quick in translating such issues and
agendas into quality productions.
"Such initiatives are
vital in cultivating enthusiasms towards nation building and
development.
"Drama productions should
carry various themes such as patriotism, corporatism amongst the
younger generation and awareness towards social problems that
are threatening the national stability.
"By encouraging youths to
participate in performing arts, we can ensure the survival and
longevity of our culture and arts," he said.
The president of GAPHAR, Pg Hj
Abu Bakar bin Pg DP Hj Mohamad also delivered an opening
address.
The event culminated with a
talk by a Universiti Brunei Darussalam lecturer, Mohd Zefri
Ariff bin Mohd Zain Ariff on the development of drama in Brunei
Darussalam.
A question-and-answer session
was also conducted, chaired by Pg Hj Mohd Don bin Pg Hj Besar,
GAPHAR's adviser, who is also a veteran actor.
