Students of a school trying the textbook.
The first ever computer books for
the primary school, written by a local Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) specialist, was again introduced
to several students yesterday at the de' Heritage, Kiulap.
Scores of lucky young ones from
a nearby school were able to utilise the Level 2 books meant for
primary two students. This was part of an effort carried out by
the author, Hj Kamsani bin Hj Ahmad to introduce such books to
the local schools.
The ICT books - Level 1 to 6 -
are up for a formal launching by a senior officer at the
Ministry of Education next month.
Hj Kamsani, a senior lecturer
with Institute Teknologi Brunei said he wrote the books after a
two-year research. He said the books are especially suited for
Brunei Darussalam's learning environment and culture as well as
in line with the national concept, Melayu Islam Beraja.
"I must not forget the
involvement of Mr Ramachandran Nair, Mr K C Chong, Dr Terry
Fairclough and staff of de' Heritage Publishing and Multimedia
Services for their endless efforts and support," he said.
Currently the ICT primary books
are being recommended for reference texts. However, some private
primary schools had been using the books in the teaching of ICT
subject.
Efforts are now undergoing for
the ICT books to be introduced as formal textbooks, as the
publications were written by a local expert, who incorporated
local aspects.
Prior to writing the latest
books, Hj Kamsani had been authored computer books such as
"An Easy Guide to Microsoft Word". He has also written
papers on electrical, electronic, magnetic engineering and ICT.
His interest started when he
struggled to figure out a problem with a very old computer back
in 1991. His interest deepened as he started to learn more about
computers through friends, magazines and correspondence courses.
He obtained his Chartered
Engineering (CEng) from UK in 1998 and obtained certifications
in MCP, MCSE, MCSA and MCT as well as qualifications in A+,
Linux +, Network+ and CISCO qualifications.
Prior to computer
qualifications, he obtained his BTEC HND Engineering, BSc
Electrical Power Engineering and MSc Electrical and
Electromagnetic Engineering from UK.
