Around 150 Indian nationals in the country attended a flag
hoisting ceremony at the Indian High Commission's Chancery at
"Baitussyifaa" Jalan Sungkai Akar in the Capital
yesterday.
The Indian High Commissioner to
the country, Mr Ajai Choudhry unfurled the Indian Tricolour
flag. This was followed by the singing of India's National
Anthem. Then the Indian High Commissioner read the Indian
President's message to Indian Nationals.
"India can become a
developed nation only if everyone contributes to the best of his
or her ability and capacity," Mr Choudry said, as stated in
the message of India's President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. According
to the message, the mission statement was transforming India
into a developed nation by the year 2020. It also touched on the
role of every citizen in addition to the governmental
initiatives of launching programmes for the vision of developed
India.
"There has to be
integrated development programmes with empowered management
schemes," the message read. Examples of various missions
suggested were that the student community take up the task
during holidays to make a certain number of people literate in
their area where their schools or houses are situated. Teachers
and parents can assist them in this task.
The Government and R&D labs
can provide technological upgrading to small-scale industries so
that production can be increased and be competitive. The youth
would need to aspire for entrepreneurship rather than
conventional employment. Large-scale industries have to increase
their contribution to economic growth, particularly growth of
GDP by concentrating on maximum output and cost effective
products so that demand will increase.
The message concluded that in
this vision period, the whole government agency has to build a
name for itself, by the fast decision-making and transparent
administration.
