By Rol Ezam
The 32-year-old man from India, who
pleaded guilty to four charges of theft last Thursday, was sentenced
to 3 months' imprisonment by Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri
yesterday. Imran Ali had pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing two
ATM cards and two charges of stealing money amounting to $1,370 using
the ATM cards. For each charge, the magistrate's sentenced him to one
month in jail, totalling four months' imprisonment.
However, the magistrate ordered that
the two sentences for stealing the two ATM cards run concurrently,
while the jail term for theft of the money will be served
consecutively.
The court heard that Imran stole the
two ATM cards from his friends and roommates, Mohamad Babar Khan and
Khan Ahmad, in their bedroom.
Imran went to Standard Chartered Bank
Muara Branch and withdrew $780 from the ATM machine from Babar's
account.
After that, Imran used the other ATM
card and withdrew $580 from the same ATM machine from Khan's account.
All the stolen money was recovered.
