PDS Students Taught to Say No To
Smoking
By Cedrina Norlaila A Clark
Bandar Seri
Begawan - When somebody approaches and says, 'Do you want a
smoke?' will you take up the offer?
Students at the PDS School and PDS
International School were given a valuable lesson yesterday - to say
no to smoking. They were taught how to decline such insidious
invitations and why they should do so.
They were also exposed to the harmful
effects of smoking, which could affect themselves, the society and the
environment. The dangerous effects of second hand smoke, especially to
young children was also highlighted as part of the school's anti
smoking campaign called, "Say No To Smoking".
Talks, accompanied by visual aids
drove home a powerful message that smoking was dangerous. Activities
such as poster and banner making also helped students further
understand the devastating effects of smoking.
To deepen understanding on this
issue, students also took part in composition writing contests and
role-playing. Students dove into their tasks with great enthusiasm and
more activities are being planned as part of the campaign. (Courtesy
