Bandar Seri
Begawan - Imran Ali, 32, from India is waiting his fate upon
his sentencing tomorrow before Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri
DSP Hj Abidin after he pleaded guilty to committing theft of two ATM
cards and cash amounting to $1,370.
When asked by the Magistrate's why he
committed the theft, he said that he needed the money for him to
return to his hometown soon.
At the hearing in the Magistrate's
Court yesterday, the Police Prosecutor told the court that Imran stole
two ATM cards belonging to his friends, Mohamad Babar Khan and Khan
Ahmad, from their bedroom as they were his roommates.
Imran then went straight to Standard
Chartered Bank Muara Branch and successfully withdrew cash amounting
to $780 through the ATM machine from Babar's account.
After that, Imran then used the other
ATM card and withdrew cash amounting to $580 through the same ATM
machine from Khan's account.
Five days ago, Babar went to the said
bank to withdraw cash and he found that, his money had been withdrawn
without his knowledge and thus he reported the matter to the Bank
Manager.
He was shown the video recorded from
the ATM machine and he positively identified Imran who had withdrew
his money and also his brother's money.
Babar then proceeded to lodge a
Police report at the Muara Police Station, the court heard.
Imran was then arrested and upon
Police investigations it was revealed that, Imran had returned $800
and put that money on Babar's bed. About $500 of the remaining cash
stolen through the ATM machine was recovered. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
