Trade liberalisation and
globalisation have once again benefited a local Bruneian who
ventured into film and drama productions in Indonesia.
Armed with great confidence, he
invested into an Indonesian company, of which he became a major
shareholder controlling 90 per cent shares. His investment paid
off when one of the company's films came second in the all-time
popularity chart in Indonesia.
"It was very surprising
since the film was starred by newcomers. However, the film was a
box-office hit in Indonesia, beaten only by a famed Hollywood
film," he said. The film earned the company a B$500,000.
He said the company mainly
produced drama serials for Indonesian televisions, but once in a
while also produced films. "You can find our productions
being aired on Indonesian satellite channels," he said.
When asked whether he would
make a similar investment here, he replied that he would be
making an entry into the local market by this year, producing
drama serials for the local television channel RTB.
"We want to remain
anonymous for the time being until such time when we are ready
to reveal ourselves. But we want people to know that
entrepreneurs from Brunei can be successful by investing
globally," he said.
