one of the sponsors of the medical congress.
Fifty private companies will
fund what is dubbed by the Ministry of Health as the largest
ever international health congress to be sponsored in Brunei,
the 10th Asean ORL Head and Neck Congress.
The prestigious event will be
held on 27-29 January 2003 and attract about 700 local and Asean
participants as well as about 70 lecturers from Asean, Europea
and the United States.
Three sponsors each presented a
cheque for $75,000 to become the Platinum Sponsors, while five
companies each gave a cheque for $25,000 as the Silver Sponsors.
The ceremony to present the
cheques to the congress organisers and the acknowledgement
certificates to sponsors was held yesterday at the ICC.
Present as guests of honour
were Pehin Dato Awang Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong, Minister of Health
and Dato Paduka Awang Haji Zainal Bin Haji Momin, Permanent
Secretary of the Ministry of Health.
In his welcoming address, Haji
Mohd Mahdi bin Hj Abd Rahman, Co-chairman of the
Otorhinolaryngologi head and neck congress, said that the
congress was the biggest international health congress to be
sponsored in Brunei.
Haji Mohd Mahdi noted that the
congress would enable participants to discuss the ways to tackle
the medical problems through the use of sophisticated
technology.
