Boys in blue have green fingers too

Police are not only busy fighting crime and maintaining the law and order but also take time to beautify their headquarters, stations and police posts.

And they are not doing it just for fun but to also promote cleanliness and beautiful surroundings.

Yesterday morning, a prize presentation ceremony for the Police Stations and Posts Beautification Competition Year 2002 was held at Limau Manis Police Station. The contest has been held annually since 1990.

Guest of honour was Dato Paduka Seri Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Johan, Commissioner of Police, who presented prizes to winners in the six categories of the competition.

The event started with a recital of Surah Al-Fatihah by Imam Pg. Haji Metassim bin Pg. Haji Kula. It was followed by a welcoming speech by Senior Superintendent Sheikh Hj. Abdul Ghani bin Sheikh Abdullah, the Deputy Director of Administration and Financial Department, Royal Brunei Police Force who is also the chairman of the Police Stations and Posts Beautification Competition.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, in his speech said the contest was aimed at beautifying and improving the surroundings of police headquarters, stations and posts.

The contest also sought to enhance cooperation and solidarity among police personnel as well as increasing productivity.

He stressed on the importance of balancing their duties with maintaining the beauty of their workplaces.

There were six categories in the beautification contest. The winner in category A was the Istana Nurul Izzah Police Royal Guard's Housing, Police Reserved Unit 'A' Company won in category B, while Limau Manis Police Station won in category C. There were also winners in categories D, E and F.

Later, the Commissioner of Police placed a plaque at the Limau Manis Police Station building to mark its win in category C and signed the police station's visitor's book. He also toured an exhibition at the Limau Manis Police Station.

Last year, Limau Manis Police Station recorded 145 criminal cases, of which 33 cases involved customs offences. A total of 131 road accidents were recorded, including 41 self-accidents, 41car-to-car cases and 35 cases of accidents involving animals.
