The Ambassador of the Peoples
Republic of China, Mr Wei Wei and his wife, visited the Chinese
Chamber of Commerce and other Chinese associations in Kuala
Belait yesterday morning with the aim of establishing formal
connection with the local Chinese community.
Hosting the visit was the
President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Pehin Onn Siew
Siong.
Mr Wei Wei visited Kuala Belait
for the first time and he was impressed by the friendliness of
the people in the district.
The ambassador, who had been in
Brunei for less than four weeks since his appointment, added
that he wished to learn more of the Malay culture in Brunei
Darussalam.
He also noted that the purpose
of his visit was to provide information on the fast growing
economy in China and the good opportunity to establish economic
or business ties with the local Chinese.
The ambassador also touched on
the close relationship between Brunei and China due to frequent
exchange visits made by the President of China and His Majesty.
Yesterday, the Chinese
ambassador visited the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Association,
Hakka Association, Foochow Association, Tai Poo Association,
Kwang Hui Sau Association and Hainan Association in Kuala Belait.
He also made few visits to the
Chinese associations in Bandar Seri Begawan.
