Prince Abdul Qawi, Executive
Deputy Chairman and CEO of QAF Brunei Sdn Bhd, was the chief
guest at the keynote address by Tengku Tan Sri (Dr) Mahaleel
Tengku Ariff, CEO of Proton, who spoke over a luncheon on
"Competing in a Globalising World - the Proton
Experience".
Also present were Pehin Dato
Laila Utama Hj Awg Isa, Special Adviser to His Majesty the
Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Minister
of Home Affairs, permanent secretaries from the Ministry of
Communications, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Home
Affairs and Brunei Economic Development Board members.
In his presentation at the
Empire Hotel and Country Club, Tengku Mahaleel spoke about
Proton's transformation into a full-fledged automotive maker. He
also spoke about how Proton, by taking on a true perspective in
response to competition, became one of the few South-east Asian
companies with a truly global reach.
Earlier, a lively exchange of
views among participants from different business sectors and
from the government on their respective outlook on Brunei
Economy entitled "More of the same or opportunity for a new
direction" was also held.
There was also a presentation
on China's economic transformations and its implications for
trade and investment and indepth discussion on the implications
of Brunei Economic Development Board strategy unveiled last
week.
