Intruder Stabs Maid In Kg Mata-Mata Intense Standoff Drama
By Azlan Othman and Sharol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - An Indonesian maid was critically injured when a knife-wielding intruder held her hostage, thus causing panic in the quiet neighbourhood of Kg Mata-Mata yesterday evening.

The hostage-drama which began around 5.30 pm lasted for over three hours before the man surrendered

According to eyewitnesses the intruder forced himself into a house at Simpang 52 in Kg Mata-Mata around 5.30 pm after breaking through a window of the house. He allegedly held the Indonesian maid hostage at knifepoint.

The maid who was badly injured in the skirmish, somehow escaped after a struggle. She ran away from the assailant to seek refuge among a large number of residents who had gathered outside.

Several police officers too were at the site.

When the Bulletin spoke to the maid who seemed totally traumatised she said a man with an unsound mind entered the double-storey house. Her neck was sliced but the cut was not deep. However blood was seen on her clothes.

Around 7.20pm, a police vehicle rushed the maid to hospital for further treatment. When the Bulletin went to the scene of the hostage-drama, the man was seen standing at the balcony holding a knife to the throat of the maid and shouting those who dare to approach him will face the consequences.

He switched off the living room light at around 8.10 pm.

Police asked curious onlookers to disperse and blocked the entrance of the road. Then two persons, believed to be immediate family members of the assailant, entered the house and negotiated with him.

A police SUV vehicle arrived later and after further negotiations the assailant emerged and got into the vehicle and was driven to the hospital. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
