Bandar Seri
Begawan - The youngsters who pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's
Court a week ago to committing theft of three air conditioners were
punished yesterday.
However, Senior Magistrate Hj
Abdullah Soefri released the 16-year-old boy on bond of good behaviour.
Saiful Rizal Osman, 21, a 16 year-old
boy and Ak Mohd Nurhani Rudi Adiman, 20, had to wait for their
sentence for a week, pending the school report of the 16-year-old boy,
who the court found that he had a good discipline record and good
results.
With effect from yesterday, Saiful
had to serve six months in jail, while the 16-year-old boy was
released on bond of a good behaviour for a year with a surety of
$5,000. Nurhani was sentenced to two months jail.
However, Nurhani was additionally
sentenced to another two months after he pleaded guilty to committing
theft of a Sony Playstation II. Magistrate Abdullah ordered for the
sentence to run consecutively, thus the total jail being four months.
As revealed in the statement of
facts, the offence occurred on December 11, last year. The 16-year-old
boy, together with Saiful and Nurhani went to a terrace house near the
Tiong Hin Supermarket in Jerudong using a Suzuki Vitara driven by the
boy, the Police Prosecuting officer told the court.
Having arrived at the area, the boy
dropped both Saiful and Nurhani off at a junction leading to the
terrace house. Before he left, they asked him to pick them up sometime
at 7am the next day.
The two then proceeded straight
towards one of the unoccupied terrace houses, through the main gate
and went to the backyard to find a way to enter the house. Nurhani
then entered the house through the maid's room by removing the sliding
glass of the window. His accomplice followed him.
Once they were inside the maid's
room, they removed one window air-con.
They proceeded downstairs and then
took two window air-cons from the two bedrooms. Later they headed to
the living room placing the stolen items there and went to sleep.
Shortly after that, Nurhani woke up
and when he discovered that there was no sign of the boy's car around
he started to look around.
Then he decided to enter another
unoccupied terrace house at the same place.
He entered the house through the hole
of an air-con, which was covered only with plywood. Having entered the
house he then went to the living room and took the Sony Playstation II
placed on top of the table.
Investigations revealed that the
three air-cons was sold to a Filipino at $100 each while Nurhani also
sold the Sony Playstation II to the same man for $50, the court heard.
