The Changing Aspect Of Human Knowledge Explained

Bandar Seri Begawan - Education Minister Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Aziz says human knowledge is constantly changing and expanding.

It is no longer just knowledge that is power, but communication that determines success in research, education and business both as societies and as individuals also count.

Pehin Abdul Aziz made the remark at the launching of the English Conference for Business and Technology yesterday. The Education Deputy Minster Dato Haji Suyoi read the Education Minister's text.

The Education Minister added part of the programme is to communicate effectively with the mastery of different languages for different purposes.

In this context he says Brunei has implemented a Bilingual Education Policy 1985.

His Majesty's government decided to bring together the Malay and English Medium Schools into a singular education system resulting in all students to receive instruction both in Malay and English.

The policy he continued is aimed at ending the division of the population into Malay and English educated.

In this unified national curriculum, the Malay language is used to deliver a subject associated with social cultural values and national heritage in order to instil in the pupils patriotism as well as developing their spiritual aspects so that they will lead a way of life according to the national and religious values.

The two-day conference is a valuable opportunity for academics and practitioners in English for special purposes to come together and share the latest developments in the field.

The conference will present 16 papers on a range of issues relating to English for Business and Technology including online language development programmes, pragmatics, alternative teaching, approaches, self-access centres and practical methodologies.
