If people are still thinking of dropping balloons during the New Year celebrations at major establishments in the capital, then a couple who walked pass a tilted coconut tree must thank their lucky stars - because a falling coconut just missed them by inches.

The couple were having a stroll down the pavement as the sun was about to set when, to their horror, a coconut fell right in front of them and landed beside a parked car. "We must thank our lucky star since the coconut could have landed itself on another soft spot - on top of our heads. Otherwise, its untimely fall could also land itself on top of cars, which would surely cause damages to the vehicles," they said.

They urged the relevant authorities to think of ways of preventing coconuts from falling haywire as their untimely drop could pose dangers to passers-by.

They said the pavement was usually used by tourists from nearby hotels on their ways to nearby stalls or the capital.

"I am not sure how it can be done but maybe nets could be installed near the top of the trees so the coconuts would not fall haywire to the ground. But the leaning coconut tree should be cut down as the whole tree could fall, endangering the lives of people who walk the pavement," they said.
