The yoghurt industry is growing in
Brunei. It is no longer a niche market. For the first time, the
country started to produce yoghurt last year and the products are now
available in many popular supermarkets.
Mashor Dairy Farm and Factory is one
of the fastest growing dairy businesses in the country. Situated in
Kampong Jerudong, it is a division of Mashor Group of Companies owned
by a Bumiputra family.
Yoghurt was one of the first
functional foods available in Brunei. Functional food is a term to
describe foods with documented health benefits.
The Business Development Manager, Hj
Mohamed Imtiaz said this new yoghurt product range has been
well-accepted by Bruneians and the demand has been encouraging.
The product is sold under the brand
name " Hana", which is the Arabic word for delicious.
Yoghurt is made by adding a culture,
a specific type of live bacteria to milk, and then creating a certain
condition for the culture to grow which finally makes the milk creamy
or solid, and produce a sour taste.
