Shopping spree lands M'sian woman
in jail

With the intention of going shopping
at the shops in Tutong, but knowing that she had entered Brunei
illegally, had landed Elisabeth Anak Tengah to one month imprisonment
if she failed to pay the $800 fine imposed. The Immigration
Prosecuting officer Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir told the court that the
defendant was found at a house at Simpang 64, Jalan Pengasing in
Kampong Sengkarai, Tutong two days ago.
The Sarawakian widow with three
children was caught by the Immigration officers who conducted an
inspection onto the said house. The inspection was carried out after
the Immigration officers received a public complaint.
When asked about her passport, the
defendant had failed to produce her passport to the Immigration
officers and was subsequently brought to the enforcement section of
the Immigration Department for investigation, the court heard.
Investigations revealed that the
defendant is a Malaysian national and she had admitted entering Brunei
a day before she was caught through Kampong Bebuloh, Limau Manis
without the possession of a passport.
