Exodus Of Villagers To Tutong Town
A Concern
By Lyna Mohammad & Hj Minor Absah
Tutong Town -
There has been a steady exodus of villagers from Kg Supon Besar in the
Tutong District because of the lack of roads that makes it difficult
for the villagers to commute to and from Tutong Town.
Villagers fear that with more
residents moving out it would soon become vacant and neglected. That
could encourage illegal immigrants to move in and make some of the
public amenities as a centre for anti-social activities.
Acting Home Affairs Minister Dato Awang Haji Adanan led a delegation
on a working visit to several kampongs in the Tutong District
yesterday when issues relating to birth certificates and road problems
were raised.
The visit, which began at Kg Belabau,
was to see closely the prosperity of the rural villagers and to chekc
up on the development in the area from the point of buildings and
basic facilities such as the village's multi purpose hall, primary
school and 'surau'.
The visit showed the concern of the
government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan that is
always caring towards the welfare of these rural areas.
Besides visiting, the group also
celebrated Hari Raya and mingled with the converts and residents of
the village.
The same group of officials had
visited other districts including Tutong December 19 last year.
The group visited the houses of
converts in Kg Belabau, Kebubok Long House in Kg Supon Besar and Kg
Mapol Long House in Mukim Rambai.
The visiting group also performed a
mass 'Dzuhur' prayer at Kg Belabau before having lunch with the
villagers. Mass 'Asar' prayers were also performed at the Kg Mapol 'surau'.
The visit concluded with a Hari Raya
visit to Kg Mapol Long House before heading back to Kg Belabau.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry
of Home Affairs, Dato Awg Hj Rahman Hj Mohiddin, Director of Islamic
Dakwah Centre, Tutong District Officer, Department Heads and Senior
Officers of MHA, Head Villagers and Senior Officers of the Tutong
Government offices were some of the other officials who were part of
the working visit group. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
