Government Man Held For Drug Smuggling At Brunei Airport

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) cracking down on drug smuggling detained a government servant on December 31, an official release said.

He had with him about 46 grams of metamphetamine (syabu) and 1.25 litres of codeine.

NCB officials also held for questioning the detained government man's wife and his sister. Four others in their 20's and 30's are under questioning for alleged drug smuggling.

Law enforcers moved on 31-year-old public servant at the cargo car park of the Brunei International Airport and found the drugs in plastic containers in his car.

Following the discovery, the NCB officers carried out a raid on the same day on the suspect's house at the Lambak Kanan National Housing Resettlement area, where they found $88,428 in cash, a weighing machine, utensils for consuming drugs and a mobile phone.

They also seized two cars possibly purchased through drug related funds. The officers also found three bank account books.

According to NCB, five of the detainees were released on bail. The husband and wife however are still under investigation under the Drugs Misuse Act.

The bureau has reminded those in possession of 50 grams of metamphetamine for trafficking in the sultanate carries the death sentence.
