Government Man Held For Drug
Smuggling At Brunei Airport

Begawan - The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) cracking down on
drug smuggling detained a government servant on December 31, an
official release said.
He had with him about 46 grams of
metamphetamine (syabu) and 1.25 litres of codeine.
NCB officials also held for
questioning the detained government man's wife and his sister. Four
others in their 20's and 30's are under questioning for alleged drug
smuggling.
Law enforcers moved on 31-year-old
public servant at the cargo car park of the Brunei International
Airport and found the drugs in plastic containers in his car.
Following the discovery, the NCB
officers carried out a raid on the same day on the suspect's house at
the Lambak Kanan National Housing Resettlement area, where they found
$88,428 in cash, a weighing machine, utensils for consuming drugs and
a mobile phone.
They also seized two cars possibly
purchased through drug related funds. The officers also found three
bank account books.
According to NCB, five of the
detainees were released on bail. The husband and wife however are
still under investigation under the Drugs Misuse Act.
The bureau has reminded those in
possession of 50 grams of metamphetamine for trafficking in the
sultanate carries the death sentence.
