Born into a family that is active in the Sultanate's
establishment of scout movement, son of the founder started to
get involved as a cub scout in 1952.
Skiper Abd Jalil Dato Hj Marsal,
pioneer of the Air Scout Movement in the country, was yesterday
presented with the Honorary Air Scout Wing Badge by the Acting
Commander of Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAF).
The ceremony, which coincided
with the Award Presentation Ceremony of the force, was held at
the RBAF Base in Rimba, Gadong. The badge is presented to a
scout member who has wide experience in the field and is a
Private Pilot Licence (PPL) holder, qualified to fly an
aircraft.
Skiper Abd Jalil passed and got
his PPL in the 60's and is qualified to fly a fixed Wings Cessna
and Piper Cheroke aircraft. He was the first local Malay to hold
the post as an Air Traffic Control Officer with the Civil
Aviation department in the same year.
A member of the Sabah Flying
Club as well as the Brunei Flying Club, he has several flying
experiences between Brunei, Labuan and Sabah.
Also receiving the badge was
Skiper Awg Hj Hassan Hj Timbang, who has been active as a Senior
Scout since 1957. Up to now, he has received scout medals such
as Wood Badge, medal of merit, long service, Bar to Medal of
Merit, Meritorious and "Bintang Rakis" from the Scout
Movement of NBD. He had also
attended several meetings overseas such as Asian Sub Meeting,
World Scout Conference, World/Asia Pacific Jamboree and World
Scout Parliamentary.
Next recipient was Skipper Awg
Mohd Sofian Hj Reduan, who has participated Jamboree in Perak,
West Malaysia; World Scout Jamboree in Korea and Holland as well
as the World Youth Forum in Holland.
Throughout his scouting life,
he had been awarded Chief Scout, Advance Scout, Petrol Leader,
Assistant Petrol Leader and Assistant Venture Award.
Meanwhile, Awg Hj Suhaibun Hj
Othman, the next recipient, has participated Basic Scouter
training, Basic Wood Badge, General Information, Assistant
Trainer Leadership and Advance Wood Badge Courses.
Having vast experience and
skills in scouting, he has supported and assisted in training
the Air Scout Movement since it was established.
The RBAF Commander Award for
Best Air Scout Troop was also awarded at the event. It was
awarded to the Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College in Kuala Belait.
Also present at the event were other air scout members and
family members of the badge recipients.
