Baiduri Bank theft – suspects cannot meet $10,000 bail

By Malai Fadley Rizal

Two of the alleged Baiduri Bank ATM thieves, were further remanded following an application made by DPP Hj Nabil Daraina as the two computer whiz had neither $10,000 cash nor two local sureties to meet the bail condition set by the Magistrates Court.

Er Boon Hua, 25, in an earlier hearing complained through his counsel Mr Yusof Halim that he had been stripped off his clothes and drenched with an air-conditioner blasting on him during investigations at the Berakas Police Station where he and 28-year-old Loo Kim Meng were remanded previously.

They were caught with $22, 700 in hand at the Brunei borders. The money is alleged to have been stolen from several accounts from Baiduri Bank's two ATM machines located at The Centrepoint in Gadong and at Shakirin Complex in Kiulap at different times on October 5, 2002.

The case will be brought to the Magistrates' Court every two weeks as the two defendants had not met the bail conditions.
