Apprehension and awe that yesterday came with the first day of
school were uppermost in all educational institutions as the
first school term for 2003 began. Not only were teachers busy
scheduling classes and tasks and students beginning new lessons,
parents also took time to send and collect their children from
school, RTB reported.
There was a marked congestion
of traffic on roads in and around schools, as parents and
guardians accompanied their children and wards to school.
However, police helped to ease traffic.
Some parents had no choice but
to take time from work to assure their pre-schooling offsprings
that school could be very enjoyable. But for some, they were not
ready to face the new experience.
Others were eager to learn
their three R'S.
Non-government schools also
began their new term yesterday.
Nearly 4,000 new pre-school
pupils have registered at government primary school throughout
the country. Of the total 2,690 pupils were registered in the
Brunei Muara District, 459 in the Tutong District, 535 in the
Belait District and 165 in the Temburong District.
Secondary and religious schools
also began their new school term. Effective this year, school
days for primary and secondary will be divided into four terms
with the first term running until March 20.
