Call For Stricter Traffic Rules As
Road Users See Red
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Concerned motorists have proposed increased fines or
other tougher deterrence against speeding. They also believe that
those who use the hand phones while driving must be dealt with tougher
laws and penalties, according to a report in the Borneo Bulletin.
As the accident toll rises due to
careless driving and utter disregard to traffic rules and regulations,
there is a greater public demand as never before to deal with the
offenders with stringent penalties, it reports.
Drivers who turn a blind eye to the
existing laws must be dealt with severely according to concerned road
users.
They urge the enforcement agencies to
consider increasing fines on traffic violators, especially those who
jump the red light, ignore the yellow box rule, failing to stop at
zebra crossings and exceed the speed limits along the highway.
Currently the fine for breaking the road regulation like speeding is a
mere $50, which is far too little..
Several precautionary measures should
be speedily implemented including the installation of cameras near the
traffic lights to nab red light violators. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
