15 Months For Fake $100 Note
By Malai FadleyRizal & Md Ezam
Bandar Seri
Begawan - In imposing a deterrent sentence, Intermediate Court
Judge Awang Hairolarni yesterday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 15
months jail for using a fake $100 note to buy tyres.
Zailin Hj Jambol was found guilty to
using the $100 counterfeit note to buy tyres from Westin Automotive
Sales and Service Sdn Bhd at Kg Sg Belukut on June 13, 2001.
The court heard that the cashier who
received the counterfeit note doubted the authenticity of the note,
but it was too late to stop Zailin as he had already left with two
friends.
However, the cashier managed to get
Zailin's car plate licence number and lodged a police report which led
to Zailin's arrest.
During a lengthy trial, DPP Suhana
binti Sudin assisted by DPP Adina binti Alidin produced eight
witnesses including one of Zailin's friends who admitted in court that
Zailin's note was counterfeit.
The maximum jail sentence is 15
years' jail. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
