Croc Attacks Resident

Tutong - An elderly man escaped from the jaws of a crocodile yesterday after he was attacked by the reptile in the flood-stricken Tutong District.

Awang Gubil Sipoi and his wife were checking a fish dragnet for their catch of the day at Sungai Ukong when a crocodile attacked him. The crocodile that lay under the calm floodwater, which was chest high, came up and grabbed Awang Gubil Sipoi's leg.

According to the 73-year-old victim, "I was shocked when the crocodile sprung from nowhere to grab my leg and I held on tightly to the stilt of my dragnet.

"The crocodile let go of my leg luckily but the attack injured my left leg. Fortunately, my wife was unharmed.
 

Medical personnel rushed to the scene to transport Awang Gubil Sipoi to the hospital.

It's the fast tune that a crocodile has attacked a person during the floods. The Tutong District Office has advised the residents of flooded areas to be cautious for their own safety.

The district office also urged residents not to allow their children to play in floodwater to avoid am, unnecessary incidents.   -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
