Youth Learn The Art Of Team Work
By Liza Mohd

Kuala Belait - "Youths should be exposed to various fields in diverse situations so they can have an open mind, able to draw comparison and make wise decisions in jointly contributing to the country's development."

This was said by Awang Shahminanbin Haji Tengah, Assistant Belait District Officer at the closing ceremony of the Phase III `Belait Cinta Tanah Air' programme in Liang Lumut Recreational Club Wednesday morning.

Twenty-five youths from BruneiMuara, Tutong and Temburong district took part in the programme which ran from February 24 to 27.

"From the activities organised in the programme, participants are able to understand the diverse Brunei culture and tradition; learn self-discipline and practise teamwork in a restricted environment," said the chief guest.

The four-day programme was organised in line with the 24th National Day celebration and has provided youths the opportunity to increase their patriotic spirit and love for the country.

The activities were designed to benefit the youths and prevent them from committing actions that contradict the religious beliefs and laws of the country.

"Such exposure will not only have an impact on the youths, but also on the communities in general, particularly Mukim or Kampong, in introducing their traditions, and products, as well as to attract visitors or travellers to their respective districts," he said.

The `Belait Cinta Tanah Air' is a programme carried out by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports with the cooperation of the Mukim and Village Consultative Council and Youths Associations in four districts.

The programme gathered all youths from four districts to form a group moving from one Mukim to another to carry out community works.

The activities included visits to the Sungai Liang Forestry Centre arid BLNG; cleaning campaign at Jalan Kecil Pantai Sungai Liang and coconut planting at Sungai Liang beach among others.

Throughout the programme, youths stayed at foster homes which are part of the adopted family programme. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
