By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei sent a tug-of-war team yesterday to participate in the current Labuan Invitational Tug-of-War Championship 2008. The country is represented by the G16 Jerudong Tug-of-War Team, the defending champion of last year's Borneo Tug-of-War Competition held in the Sultanate.

The two-day championship that will end tomorrow is organised by the Labuan Corporation in conjunction with Federal Territory Day 2008 at the Labuan Square.

A total of six teams are taking part in the championship, including host Labuan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei

This marks the second time that Brunei has been invited for such a championship. The country was formerly represented by the RBPF Tug-of-War Team.

The 12 strongmen of the G16 Jerudong team left for Labuan early yesterday morning, followed by committee members of the Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association, led by its president Pg Hj Jadid Omarali, as well as two of its vice presidents, Dr Chan Su Kiat and Andy Lau Sic Chuong.

The participants were sent off at the Ferry Terminal Serasa in Muara by the association's secretary, Pg Iskandar Omarali.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
