Belia Cinta Tanah Air 2008 Phase III Participants Receive Certificates

Bandar Seri Begawan - Participants of the Belia Cinta Tanah Air 2008 Phase III (or Youths' Love For the Nation 2008 Phase III) received their certificates yesterday at the Dewan Di-Gadong, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Present as the event's guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

It began with a recital of the Surah al-Fatihah and a doa selamat recited by Mudim Hj Amran Hj Salleh, followed by welcoming remarks from Pg Sabri Pg Hj Mohammad, Deputy Director of the Youth and Sports Department.

A representative of the programmme's participants gave a speech, in which he shared various experiences, including their involvement in helping victims of the recent Temburong flood disaster. The guest of honour also delivered his speech. Towards the end, the participants gave a special performance before receiving their certificates from the guest of honour.

A total of 408 youths took part in the national programme, with 201 youths involved in Phase I, 117 in Phase II and 90 in Phase III.

Some 152 members of mukim and village committees from all four districts were also involved in organising the programme. More than 50 participants provided assistance or services for the flood victims in Temburong.

The programme aimed to instil a spirit of nationhood among youths, making them strong, open-minded individuals, in addition to strengthening ties among participants and involving them in community works. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
