Minister Of Culture, Youth And Sports Lauds Efforts Of National Programme
By Za'im Zaini

Bandar Seri Begawan - "Youths that are found lacking or do not function in the flow of national development, acting as passengers or like parasites on a tree, slow down the process towards generating a more peaceful and harmonious country."

This was stated by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, in his speech yesterday at the closing ceremony and certificate presentation for Belia Cinta Tanah Air 2008.

"We have an obligation to give serious attention to these groups by preparing a proactive and dynamic approach to produce useful and beneficial youths for the religion, nation and country. This is in accordance with the term `Our Youths, Our Future' as stated in the national policy for youths," he added.

According to Brunei's key indicators in 2002, 45.12 per cent of the country's population are in the age group of 15 to 40. Therefore, if they are not given special attention, it would be a big loss.

Speaking further on the programme, the minister highlighted its various activities, like raising of the national flag, distribution of flags to villagers, as well as involvements in the march past and community works.

He also said that the programme should continue and the quality of its implementation be improved, so that objectives could be achieved more effectively. The involvements of various communities from all four districts have been encouraging. This spirit of voluntarism must also be preserved. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
