SMEs Called On To Dominate The
Local Market
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have to conquer
the domestic market in order to strengthen their finance and
capabilities so as to be prepared for the possibility of exporting
their goods overseas.
This was said by Deputy Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Development Awang Haji Mohamad Zain bin
Awang Haji Salleh during the launch of the Local Products Festival
at the Horticulture Centre, Rimba.
The deputy permanent secretary, who
was present as the guest of honour, said, "We understand that SMEs
are an important and dynamic part of the economy. The continuous
development of the sector is one of the main components for the
government to achieve a balanced economic progress and higher
standards of living in every level of the community.
He also said the government,
through the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, has
implemented various projects and programmes to support the
development of SMEs, and among them are basic training and business
infrastructure:
"The programmes and facilities are
part of an effort to raise awareness among entrepreneurs of the
various services that the government provides for SMEs," he said.
"We must ensure that the entrepreneurs will make full use of the
incentives and increase their capabilities in order to compete
regionally and globally."
Following the speech, the guest of
honour launched the festival before visiting some of the 60 booths
featured at the event.
