Brunei Hit By String Of Thefts,
Carjackings

Begawan - Twenty theft cases, including carjackings, were
reported to the police within the last seven days.
According to the weekly police log,
thieves carjacked two vehicles - a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Toyota
Corolla, Fortunately, the police were able to locate the whereabouts
of the missing Toyota vehicle.
Eight cases of theft were also
recorded at UBD, Kg Terunjing Baru, Jln Pasai Satu, Jln Singa
Menteri in Belait, Pandan 8 flat, Manggis, Sungai Matan and Kg
Selayun. Among the items stolen were sports rims, two mobile phones,
two boat engines, a boat, a gas cylinder and a ladder.
There were also 11 cases of theft
in Lambak Kiri, Bengkurong, a government office in Jln Ong Sum Ping,
Yayasan building, a religious school in Jin Pasir Berakas, Brunei
International Aiport, a restaurant in Jln Muara, Kg Mata-IVIata, Jin
Kota Batu, Jln Maulana and Lorong 3 in Seria.
Thieves made off with large
quantities of cash, jewellery, important documents, electrical
cables, four mobile phones, two laptops, two speakers, a Sony
PlayStation gaming console, a DVD player, a wristwatch, a gas
cylinder, as well as an ASTRO card and decoder.
A man in his 30s was detained in
connection to the thefts. The police also questioned another eight
locals.
Aside from thefts, the police also
recorded two fire incidents in Kg Masin and Belait, three cases of
fraud, a criminal breach of thrust case and a suicide.
Meanwhile, a man was detained over
a rape case. Other cases included: customs (6), drug abuse (4);
immigration (2); trespassing (1); assault (1); vandalism (1); and,
gambling (1).
This past week alone, there were
22 accidents on Brunei roads -- 16 car crashes, five
self-accidents and one collision between a buffalo and a vehicle. -- Courtesy of Borneo
