Brunei Audience Sits In On White
House DVC

Begawan - Brunei government officials, academics and
political party members were among the audience sitting in on a
digital video conference (DVC) by Professor Burdett 'Bird' A Loomis
from the University of Kansas, who spoke from Singapore, on the
'Race to the White House 2008: Candidates and Issues'.
Professor Loomis will be in
Malaysia to deliver a series of talks and provide insight into the
Republican and Democratic presidential candidates and issues
pertaining to the impending elections.
Professor Loomis - a widely
regarded expert - reviewed the prospects and positions of the main
candidates, answering questions from the Brunei an audience about
the dynamics and strategic dimension of the US election process.
During the conference, he also gave
an overview of what to expect and look for in this year's election
as well as how the 2008 election would have an impact on the
American Political history: US could have its first women president,
first African-American president or the oldest in his first year of
presidency.
Present at the digital video
conference was US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Emil Skodon.
While in Malaysia, the professor
will be travelling to different universities and institutions in
Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Alor Setar, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
Loomis holds a first degree in
government and international relations from Carleton College and
graduated with a PhD in Political Science from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison.
A professor of Political Science at
the University of Kansas, he is currently the Director of Political
Science intern programmes in Washington DC and Topeka. In 2005, he
was the director of administrative communications in the office of
Kansas Governor, Kathleen Sebelius.
Loomis has published extensively on
a wide range of topics related to American politics, Congress,
interest groups and state legislatures. Noted among his publications
is a book entitled 'Choosing the President (2002),' which he
