Man U Have Good Chance To Overtake
Arsenal, Says McMahlon
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Steve McMahon has revealed a number of analyses and
predictions for this season's UEFA Champions League, English Premier
League, as well as Euro 2008 finals, in an interview at the
Profitable Group's branch office at Rizqun International Hotel
yesterday.
With Manchester United just three
points adrift from league leaders Arsenal in the English Premier
league, McMahon believed that Manchester United have a good chance
of overtaking Arsenal.
"Manchester United has better
discipline and are a better team."
"In the title race, Liverpool have
absolutely no chance of taking home the championship this year,
while Chelsea have a chance because they got a huge squad but the
least likely to win the championship."
On Liverpool's performance this
year, the former Liverpool midfielder said: "Without Gerard and
Torres, Liverpool have become an average team. I like Rafael Benitez
as a coach, but his coaching method is meant for European football
and his rotation policy is not working in the Premier League."
In the fight for a spot for the
UEFA Champions League next year, McMahon said: "Liverpool are the
favourites to take the spot against Everton and Aston Villa."
"I am surprised that Liverpool beat
Inter Milan 2-0 in the first leg and it's a great bonus for
Liverpool. In the second leg, Liverpool will be defending the
advantage. However, it will be a tough game at the San Siro stadium.
"
"For me Inter Milan are the
favourite to grab the title from the start."
Turing his attention to the Euro
2008 finals, the new commercial director of Profitable Group said he
actually think Spain will be an outside bet to take the title. "It's
a `profitable' prediction. Spain are a team that underachieve so
many times with the talents they have and I think they have the
quality there now."
On England's absence at the Euro
2008, he said: "I think England being out, of Euro 2008 is a big
blow for the tournament. The England game is so popular in the
world. It actually takes a little edge off the tournament."
On the current England squad, he
said he liked the system Capello is playing now.
"He is changing the system a bit.
He is playing more football in midfield with five midfielders in
short passing games. All players looked comfortable with the ball."-- Courtesy of Borneo
