Maktab Sains’ Top Achievers Feted

Begawan - Sixty-five top students from Maktab Sains Paduka
Seri Begawan Sultan received prizes and certificates, in
acknowledgment for their excellent achievements in last year's
examinations.
The guest of honour who presented
the prizes was Pengiran Datin Hajah Hairani binti Pengiran Maharaja
Lela Pg Muda Kahar, a member ofthe civil services commission under
the Prime Minister's Office.
The principal of the college, Hajah
Kamlah binti Hj Daud, in her welcoming remark said, "This is the
third time that the college has hosted a prize presentation award
for best students because of the increase in students’ population
from 900 in 1986 to 1,754 this year.
"Last year, the number of students
that sat for the PMB, GCE 'O' Level, GCE 'AS' Level and GCE 'A'
Level was 662 while this year, it will increase to 911 students."
She added, "The increase in
students' population and achievements in the college represent a
progress, which the college is proud of.
This is further proven by the rise
in number of students from the college that received scholarships to
further their studies overseas. Recently 50 students of Maktab Sains
went to United Kingdom for 'A' Levels on a scholarship programme by
Brunei Administration System and the Ministry of Education. While
another six students also went to UK to study, thanks to Royal
Brunei Airline's sponsorship."
Pengiran
Datin Hajah Hairani in another speech congratulated the recipients
of the certificates and prizes.
She said, "Education is the key to
progress and development of a nation. Each country needs to prepare
facilities and policies. However, the difference among the countries
is in the quality of their people."
She added, "We are lucky that the
Government of His Majesty, through the Ministry of Education,
continues to develop a first-class educational system by placing
emphasis on the younger generation that needs to be nurtured and
shaped."
In addition to the prizes for the
students, there were also trophies presented to the top students in
each of the subjects.

bin Ismail took the Mr Paramanathan's Memorial 'O' level Chemistry
Award, Ahmed Bokhari bin Hj Mohd Sufian received the Pg Hj Moahmmad
bin Pg Hj Chuchu `O' Level Biology Award, Toh Tieng Yee grabbed the
Miss Siow Siew Eng `O' Level Physics Award and Hajah Salimah
Abdullah `O' Level Math Award was won by Mohd Ramzul Majdi bin Md
Ramlee.
Felicia Poh Wan Ying took the Mrs
Vivien Lim 'AS' Mathematics Award, Mohd Adiazizi bin Hj Mohd Mahdi
grabbed the Pg Hj Mohammad Bin Pg Hj Chuchu 'A' Level Mathematics
Award, Dk Nur Hidayatul Haffiyah Pg Dato Paduka Hj Othman won the Mr
Peter Aldrigde 'A' Level Biology Award and Mu'izzah binti Mohd
Zakaria took the Hj Ismail bin Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato
