ABPA Members Exchange Ideas At
Forum

Begawan - The Asean Book Publishers Association (ABPA)
yesterday held a forum at the International Convention Centre (ICC)
in Berakas in conjunction with the 24th National Day celebrations.
Entitled 'Enhancing Better Business Profitablility Among Asean Countries through e-Marketing (ABPA),'
the forum was presented by a panel of speakers from various Asean
countries.
In his speech, Asean Book
Publishers Association President ATTY Dominador D Buhain said, "It
is my vision to link the member-countries of ABPA and to have a
bridge for better understanding among us.
"Better linkage and communications
would give us bigger and wider opportunities for book translation,
co-publishing and marketing. Thus, it is my hope that a website for ABPA member countries be created.
"It is coincidental that my vision
and plan then, is now the main topic of today's forum .i.e.
‘e-Marketing among Asean countries," he said.
Among the other invited speakers
were Dr J B Sudarmanto/IKAPI from Indonesia, Harip Hakim Sani from
Malaysia, Johnson Lee from Singapore, Eric Hartmann who spoke on
Google Book Search and Dr Mataim from Brunei. The event was chaired
by Hj Sahari.
The objectives of the forum were to
exchange ideas among ABPA-member countries; emulate the best
business practices and legal infrastructure among ABPA members;
expand co-publishing programmes, translation and distribution
rights; promote better understanding and goodwill; as well as have
better representation at international forums.
ABPA
has an exhibition booth where members of the public can check out
books published by various Asean countries, It is currently being
manned by Deputy Secretary General for International Affairs and
Concurrent Head of the Book Fairs Sonia Santiago, and Quek Chin Hui,
