Invitation To Study Car
Engineering In Germany
By Sonia K. &Yusrin Junaidi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany
to Brunei Darussalam, Conrad Cappell, welcomed Michael Kurth,
Managing Director of University of Karlsruhe, in a reception
yesterday at his residence.
Mr
Kurth was in the country on behalf of the Carl Benz School of
Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
It enables students from across the
globe to attain a degree in engineering from the world-renowned
German Research University of Karlsruhe.
"A lot of students go abroad for
studies but only a small number of students go to Germany.
"So we would like to invite more
students from Brunei to study in Germany.
"It's much easier for us to study
at the Carl Benz School of Engineering as we teach in English.
"We cover a whole wide range of
engineering and courses, such as car technology, and industries such
as machine tools, printing and packaging.
"The requirements are excellent
qualifications from high school education like `A' Levels.
These prospective students will
also have to go through an interview and an entrance exam.
Our prospective students are those
who are fascinated by engineering, car technology and car
development.
"Every year the school of
engineering only takes 25 to 35 students, so it's pretty limited,"
he said.
During the reception, Kurth,
invited guests to take a look at the smallest remote controlled
research car in the world, the Maybach, one of the world's most
luxurious cars.
The remote controlled research car
is only 6.5 cm long.
It took the research team six years
to develop this one of its kind remote controlled Maybach.
The other activities for the Carl
Benz School of Engineering are all in the field of life science and
small manufacturing systems like small turbines.
Many outstanding scientists,
including Carl Benz, the pioneer of automotive technology, and
Heinrich Hertz, who proved the existence of electro-magnetic waves,
have contributed innovative technological ideas whilst being members
of the University of Karlsruhe.
At the Carl Benz School, the
programmes are specially designed for English-speaking students from
abroad. A German Engineering Degree in Karlsruhe gives students the
advantage of acquiring both theoretical knowledge and first-hand
experience in the practical application of this knowledge.
At the Carl Benz School of
Engineering, students have the opportunity to take modules in
applied cultural and economic studies; such courses help foreign
students familiarise themselves with the European business
environment. -- Courtesy of Borneo
