Web Sites Of Ministries Should
Have ‘Look & Feel’
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Government ministries and department web sites need
to be more customer focused, friendly, interactive and should
provide online services like submission of forms besides having the
"look and feel".
Awg
Hj Abdul Rahman, a senior officer at the Public Service Department
highlighted this while briefing government web designers yesterday
on the inaugural best government ministry and department web site
competition.
The ease of downloading and the
software used to download are also crucial, he said.
These criteria will be looked into
in selecting the best government ministry and department web site,
held to mark the 14th Civil Service Day. Prizes will be presented in
April.
The aim of organising the
competition is to give recognition to the ministries/ departments in
creating informative, up-to-date and customer-friendly web sites
besides enhancing the quality of information dissemination for the
benefit of the local and foreign users.
The Deputy Director of Information
Department, and the chairperson of the excellent web site award, Hj
Yussof Hj Ladi, said any ministry or department that wishes to
create its own new web site must refer to the Information Technology
Centre of the Prime Minister's Office for domain registration and
must abide by the Broadcasting Act (Chapter 180) of the Internet
code of practice.
Existing web sites should also
follow the Broadcasting Act.
The best web site will be analysed
by panellists comprising government agencies, public, businesses,
academicians and other invited panellists.
Other criteria that will be looked
into include content (such as abiding by the Broadcasting Act, the
use of bilingual languages and Jawi, basic knowledge, additional
information like role, tasks, hyperlink, accuracy, comprehensive and
up-to-date information), design (such as creativity, attraction,
interactive, friendly) as well as additional initiatives.
Two categories — ministry and
department — will be awarded. The top prize is $500, a plaque and
certificate, $350 for the first runner-up and $250 for the second
runner-up and plaques and certificates.
The government ministries and
departments have until March 16 to update their web sites. Also
present at the briefing was the Acting Director of Information
Department, Awg Hj Mahrub bin Hj Murni. -- Courtesy of Borneo
