St Margaret's School Elects
Commendable Young Leaders
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Twelve Form 5 students of St Margaret's School in
Seria were elected as student councillors for this academic year at
an investiture ceremony held recently in recognition of their
exemplary qualities which may be passed on to other students.
The investiture ceremony was
officiated by the school's principal, Cikgu Hjh Kertini bte OKSPD
Abang Hj Abu Hanifah.
She told the student councillors,
otherwise known as prefects or student leaders in other schools, to
execute their duties and responsibilities rightfully and without
bias.
"You have been elected as student
councillors because of your good discipline, academic achievements
and leadership quality.
"Therefore, I hope you all can
carry out your added responsibilities justly and fairly without
prejudice.
"We believe that if you can execute
your duties correctly at school level, it is not impossible that one
day you will become leaders of communities after you complete your
tertiary education," she said.
To differentiate councillors from
other students, the elected leaders wear red jackets over their
school uniforms.
The school principal urged other
students to obey their leaders and to copy their exemplary
characters, including their academic achievement.
However, she said the councillors
are not immune to school rules and regulations.
"If other students
see unprecedented behaviour from the student councillors, you can
complain to other teachers or even to me so investigations can be
initiated.
"No student is above the law in
this school," she said.
She then pinned the badges to the
elected councillors. They also read the oath promising to execute
their new roles justly and fairly for the benefit of the school. -- Courtesy of Borneo
